Consumers who sent a money transfer through Western Union between January 1, 2004, and March 9, 2020, and were victims of fraud may be eligible for a remission payment.
Claimants must provide 10-digit Money Transfer Control Numbers (MTCNs) from eligible Western Union transfers.

Western Union allegedly failed to take reasonable steps to protect consumers from wire transfer fraud, despite being aware that fraudsters were using its money transfer services to carry out schemes such as grandparent scams and lottery scams. As part of a 2017 deferred prosecution agreement with federal authorities, Western Union agreed to forfeit $586 million to resolve these allegations. Phase 3 of this remission program distributes funds to eligible consumers who lost money to wire transfer fraud conducted through Western Union.
Eligible claimants may receive a cash payment based on the amount they lost to wire transfer fraud. The exact amount each claimant may receive will vary and depends on the total number of eligible claimants and the amount each individual claimant lost.
