Western Union $586M Fraud Remission (Phase 3)

Consumers who sent a money transfer through Western Union between January 1, 2004, and March 9, 2020, and were victims of fraud may be eligible for a remission payment.

About This Settlement

Western Union allegedly failed to take reasonable steps to protect consumers from wire transfer fraud, despite being aware that fraudsters were using its money transfer services to carry out schemes such as grandparent scams and lottery scams. As part of a 2017 deferred prosecution agreement with federal authorities, Western Union agreed to forfeit $586 million to resolve these allegations. Phase 3 of this remission program distributes funds to eligible consumers who lost money to wire transfer fraud conducted through Western Union.

Who Qualifies

• You may be eligible to file a claim if you meet ALL of the following criteria:
• You sent a money transfer through Western Union between January 1, 2004, and March 9, 2020
• You were a victim of fraud in connection with that Western Union transfer (e.g., a grandparent scam, lottery scam, or similar scheme)
• You are located in the United States (nationwide)
• You can provide 10-digit Money Transfer Control Numbers (MTCNs) from your eligible Western Union transfer(s) as proof of your claim

What You May Receive

Eligible claimants may receive a cash payment based on the amount they lost to wire transfer fraud.
